large object with a small highly detailed area

Hi,

How do you make the job in the title? I mean: you have a larger object, but you have to make a high detail only on a small area. I tried to make two separate mesh and sculpting only the small one, but I could not render appropriately, since the polys smoothing. Their edges don’t connect exactly.
I tried to separate the whole big one to a larger and the smaller pieces in order to save memory, and being able to make deeper sculpting levels.
Is it possible at all?
thank you very much

images of what you’re trying to achieve?
which version of Zbrush are you using?
have you tried HD sculpting?
what is the end result of the sculpt? Only in Zbrush or is it getting exported?
For what purpose is it getting exported? Animation, still image, 3D print?

thanks for reply

Here is the image This is an older concrete sill with small stones.

I would like to make a higher resolution details only in the green circle, because of the camera angle is very low, so the small stones will change the silhouette of sill. I think it is far enough to make displacement to the front, and I should make a normal/bump for the other pieces.

The red arrows shows, that originally the sill was more larger, but I had to cut, because when I tried to make deeper levels zb was frozen.

I try the zb 3.5 version, I’ve just heard the HD sculpting so I will check it. I would like to export it to maya, and make a nice displacement map as well, in the end it will be only a still image.

thank you

you can use local subD levels on the places that you would like to achieve a greater mesh density.

mask off an area, go to the lowest subD and divide (ctrl+D). This will give you another subD level on that area, this can be done as many times as you would like…or your system will allow.

For a still image this is great because it is going to create really horrible topology, but that doesn’t really matter for a static mesh.

hhhmmmm… never tried this step before. so I can just select the part of low poly mesh that I want to add a detail without going in HD Geometry.

goast666: thank you very much! I tried it, and it’s very simple and good. But I have another question: I saved my object as ztl, and when I loaded it, the geometry divide section is completely gray. When I tried to make a displace map, it says I have to go level 1.

I run out of my time, so I will check the obj/uv export/import at home, and write my questions…

But thank you
