Large object in preview window

Does anyone know the difference between the 2 different IMPORT options and when to use them? Also why when I import an Obj, the obj fills the preview window and other times it doesnt. I cant use unify because it resizes the object and i need the exact size.

Thanks for the knowledge!

I don’t know which two Import options you’re referring to, but the import button in the Tool menu imports an OBJ. The Load Tool option only loads tools that have been saved as .ztls, Zbrush’s native format.

Press F to frame an object to the confines of the window. It doesn’t change geometry coords, only view size. Scale as desired using Zbrush navigation. The import size varies with the world coordinates of the program the obj was saved in, and how that corresponds to Zbrush’s world space.

Thanks for the feedback. The preview window is kind of a boggle to me. Sometimes when an object fills the entire window, sculpting and brush sizes get screwy so you have to unify the object to fit back in the preview window. Well that changes the actual size of the model. . I guess im just curious what the preview window is all about. Docs doesnt really explain it well.

Ah, I see. You’re referring to the object preview window in Tool > preview, not the viewport. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

If you’re dealing with a model that is abnormally large in the Zbrush world space and causing odd behavior, you might try using the size sliders in the Geometry palette. Those settings are persistent and non destructive. So you can scale an object down to work on it, then back up to its original size when ready to export.

I believe this issue is the same one that I posted about here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?168239-Scaling-Issues-(GoZ-Blender-Max-etc-)-Solution-and-explanation

Brushes and scaling depend on that correct sizing in the preview. For most renderings and animations it’s not a big deal to just use unify. However this can be critical when doing specific sizing for projects that need it, like 3D printing.

If that thread doesn’t answer your questions let me know and I can walk you through it. I deal a lot with exact measurements and working on an adjusted model and resizing back to the original is not an option for me.
