i combine 2d and 3d in various ways here are my exploits

here is a 3d model i made combining zbrush and blender

and here is what i can do with such a model

1304.jpg

the armor and model i built in zbrush and Blender, rigged and rendered in daz to provide a guide for perspective and proportions in the painting. i did not create any textures for the model because i am color blind and i want to overcome that in the 2d realm as it is some what different in the 3d realm

more trying to push my colors.

i think i am getting better but still i have been told earlier there is a lot of green in this but it seems to be the green i cannot discern as it looks yellow to me

again this i a combination of 2d and 3d elements, i hope to use what i have learned on my 40k stuff

Sounds like you are colour blind, bummer!
Really nice illustrations though, specially like your space marine.
Also, what are the 3d elements in your latest piece, I initially thought it was just illustration!

YES!! just what i was hoping for in a response (for 3d not my color blindness)

ok so the sword, bodies and a redo on each hand (with another redo needed) are all 3d base, from models i built very quickly and posed them in the basic gesture. i then render a basic light to give me a guide and paint out the 3d elements. i do this to keep my perspective and proportions in check and because ever since i started playing with zbrush i have had as much fascination with 3d as 2d.

there is only one thing that really keeps me from doing more extreme poly zbrush renders, rigging. the zphere and transpose master rigging systems seem to work great for minor adjustments but i like complex poses for my own work. blender has a fast but not super precise weight map system, DAZ has a very accurate but slow weight map system (2 maps for each xyz rotation)

the real kicker is getting all that highpoly detail back into zbrush (which is my best render engine) i can’t use normal or bump maps and the displacement map make the model "inflate’ in the wrong places when applied.

a terminator helmet i built a while ago. it took me some time because i wanted to get the proportions exact to my reference

Very nice, I also love to combine Blender and ZBrush, a lot of people don’t agree with me to use Blender for creating basemeshes but there is so much benefits - well, there are so many ways.

What do you think of this workflow:
http://jayanam.com/blender-3d-coat-workflow/

Ok, this is not ZBrush after Blender it’s 3D-Coat, but now I am using more Zbrush than 3D-Coat, 3D-Coat most of the time for Retopology or some very special tasks.

well your work flow seems to be similar to mine but i bounce back and forth between the two programs when creating simple geometry. and i only do it for things that are impractical or downright not good (in my opinion) from zbrush like the cube.

the more i came back to this the less i liked their faces so i re worked his face completely. i am not sure how unified the redo is.

there will be no post mercy. i have a lot of ideas and after i post something i find it is a lot easier to come back and finish it on several days work. my best works have always come out this way

well i lost the first model i made so i re-did her head. if you remember my first drawing of her http://hattonslayden.deviantart.com/art/DeathMetal-Beatch-400760480 (she does not smoke anymore) and that line that comes from the corner of her eye, well i just remembered that i originally wanted that to follow down to her nostrils. i also intensified her cheek bones and brow ridge and made her antenna thicker and more prominent at the base. this is also the fist time i have shown her bald, so now you know she has ears. her antenna are used to detect magnetic feilds, radio waves and infra-sound (that’s ‘sense’ more than ‘hear’) i had always intended for her to have ears but never showed it before because frankly, my older design did not look good without hair.

also i am going to stop using Antmantis when describing her because people might think that is her family name

this is an illustration for a story about a Naga named Nell and her trying to create a relationship with a human names Gerrard, who she rescued and nursed back to health. contrary to what Mainstram demands these two will be able to overcome human bigotry and there will be no “Avaturding” tranformations that people use to keep racist bigots happy

building one of my characters…does anyone know how to get back detail to a model you pose in another program?
