Hey Conniekat8, Welcome to ZBC! Decent work!
Hi, nice work. Nice skin texure.
Anyway I did a test and I lost the definitions in the wrinkles just like yours. I believe the trick is to use an occlusion map in the texture to bring out the wrinkles.
I’m going to be texturing my first character soon. I can’t figure out how to use the 3D plane in ZB3 (mac) to apply texture. Works fine in v2 tho.
sirquadalot - thanks for the welcome
AVTPro - thanks! Actually the skin texture and body mesh aren’t mine, they’re DAZ’s V4 figure. All the other pieces are mine. I wrote that in the fine print somewhere, but I know there’s a lot of it Occlusion map bake, good point, I forgot all about that. Sheesh, and I’ve done it before a few times too. So much to remember.
I haven’t textured a full character yet, but I managed to make couple skullcaps for the hair via Zproject. Works pretty darn well!
Yes, hard to remember all the different things when there’s so many different things of the process. We just get use to it I guess. I haven’t done OA maps yet. I just started studying recently is all.
I love the clothing it looks very good and I can see you selling stuff like this well,Glad that you use poser in a positive way and that you have learned so much in so little time really shows your talent and future potential also.
I got a soft spot for poser since i used poser4 back in the day, without poser I never would have glanced into 3d and years after try cinema 4d to create and finally my fave of all zbrush, and the various things you pick up along the way rigging,uv maping, retopology etc is so interesting that its been years since i watched anything on tv regularly anymore : ) peace.
this stuff looks great! good work. hope to see more. i would love to see u do an entire character though…not to see if u can but just because i think u would do a great job and it would be cool to see it!
AVTPro - no worries, I know how that goes, so many places to visit and things to absorb. AO maps can definately breathe some depth into a texture. In the past I’ve done mental ray AO map bake, then blend it with the texture a bit.
KHALLUS - nice reminiscing about poser My route into 3D was a lot more circuitous… Initially through Autocad(At work) and Bryce and Poser at home, then I managed to get the company where I worked to acquire 3D Studio Viz… Maybe that’s what happened to my brain, I was learning 3D studio and Bryce and Poser all at the same time, and it all got mixed up.
sarakawa - Thanks for the vote of confidence! I actually never tried doing a character in 3D. Of all artsy things, figure drawing is the hardest for me. Perhaps because my mom was a really good portrait artist, and compared to hers, my stuff always looked like crap. But, she is a trained artist, I just leaned from her and lot of self study. I’ll bit the bullet one of these days and practice figure drawing alot more.
This is as good as it gets for my hand figure drawing - freehand prismacolor pencil working from a photo reference. All I know is how to copy the look LOL: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1621753&username=conniekat8&member&np (slight nudity)
Couple more examples of my modeling and texturing from past projects.
Just the boots are my work.
Both are obviously catering to what seems to sell in Poserdom, and have done pretty well for me as far as sales go. Black boot is my render, the other one (see credit on the pic) is a render by a friend of mine whom did a couple promo images for me. Used with his permission.
The brown boot does have a little bit of AO baked in. very little though, I dodn’t want it to be too obvious because target rendering applications are also capable of AO, so I didn’t want it to become overwhelming in case the end user uses AO setting.
Hindsight, it’s painfully obvious that the brown boot texture needs more color variation! Those are about “as good as it gets” considering my current texturing skills.

Great boots design! A odakle si ti? Čime se baviš?
Fully textured Toolbelt. DAZ Studio render. I’m not sure if this one needs any displacement wrinkles.

hi Conniekat8,
nice toolbelt !
i have a question …would be great if you can help me…
how do you modell the boot strings ? do you use splines and a lot of tweaking till its looking good or do you have a diffrent method?
Yes, I use a spline and a lot of patience. Shoelaces are made in Max, and what helps a lot with snaking the spline around is using 3D snaps.
It’s getting closer to pieces coming together here. I’m fine tuning the clothing testures. Top shirt, ladder and socks really have no texture to speak of on it yet. Bad lighting, it’s a quick overnight WIP render, and I forgot to turn off the bottom highlighting lights:
Nice job man, very sexy!!!
im wondering about the pose. like, whats she grabbing at?
The pose is just something very generic I grabbed quicky to check and see how the rig bends. Nothing permanent.
Sorry, I neglected to explain that.
With pieces I make for Poser and DS, the clothes are fully rigged and movable. As a part of bending checks I run it trhough dozens of pre made poses to make sure it all bends well.
Like something from Daz.
I think one of the things I’m yet to learn is to not post the crappy in-betweener progress shots, but to polish up whatever I decide to post in public.
“Always show your best work”? No?
Is the hard hat a Poser prop, and if so, where did you get it? Or did you make it yourself?
Thanks!
(And, Nice Work!)
I modeled and textured everything except the base body and it’s skin texture.
Hard hat, clothes, ladder, tools, pedestal and their morphing and texturing are all mine. Will be availabe at DAZ, around end of november.
