King Leonidas

Hello guys, I’m Andrea from Italy
This is my first post here, even if I read your threads every day from several months.
I would show you my latest work, hoping in your suggestions to do it better
thx!

Great works Lex !!!

Outstanding work Lex…looking forward to seeing more.

nice body and armor, but you have to revisit the head
i don’t think his nose is round and fat:cool:
and i think in general you need more work on the face.

i also digg the cape

hey Koyima…harsh and very self serving crits there…whos to say the characters nose inst meant to look like that. Appreciate things on how they are presented to us. The face has real character and structure. Dont judge others work by a set of very strange and restrictive rules that are usually constrained by ridiculous laws of symetry

em sorry i think he is making Leonidas as depicted in the movie (or graphic novel) “300”.if this is true then he is trying to make a likeness of the actor that
played leonidas, which means he has to make him look like the actor, thus he has to revisit the head and make him more like the actor.

no laws of symmetry and no self serving comments here.

even if he is making Leonidas without taking into account the movie (and/or graphic novel), Leonidas existed and you can find busts of him and make him look like that.

if he is trying to make his own Leonidas then he could say so,but i don’t think he is because this one looks a lot like the one in the movie (and/or graphic novel). even in that case i would suggest he would revisit the head
since it lacks definition and character, maybe make him a bit more handsome.

of course my comments are not helpful, but yours:

“Outstanding work Lex…looking forward to seeing more.”

is really helpful and is going to make his work better.

sorry that i didn’t see that.

tnx koyima

Lex84: sorry for polluting your thread with this.

Thx Hood

Thank you too Peter, I have to adjust something like the fingers and if I’m inspired, I should work more on the face  stay tuned!

You are right Koyma. I already fixed the nose but after made this post eheh. You’ll see it on next update! I sculpted the face quickly, I didn’t care about the similarity 'cause he wear the helm, I hope I’ll be able to fix it
And as I was saying above I should fix fingers too

Thank you guys for your partecipation

I like the greek perfect style of you models… :+1:

Koyima…

If I had a samuri sword I would pass it to you so you could fall onto it.

Chilllllllllllll…

I was just saying that your crits were punctuated with assumptions. You “Presumed” he was sculpting the actor from 300. “There are busts of Leonidas”…so what!.. The busts of Leonidas were sculpted a thousand or so years after he died and the look was based on the legend.

Lex has presented us with “his” view of Leonidas and I for one think that its very original.

And…a positive comment will do far more for someone than an assumption fuelled critique. I base this on 22 years of teaching students to sculpt.

i think my answer was civilized and covered all your points as was my post on lex’s work.

i still think it is Leonidas from the movie (mainly due to the helmet)
and i still think he asked for comments that would make his work
better.

praise talk is fine when the artist is a beginner, i think.

lex is nearly finishing this sculpt, he is not a beginner.
i think what i said will help him finish it.

some other points that would make me (and others probably)
think this is Leonidas from the movie.
the costume is the same, the hair and facial hair have the same
look, the face resembles the actor playing leonidas.

the costume in the movie is not the real spartan armour, so i figure he used the movie as a reference.
as a reference and not the real armour they used.

now the crits:

his face lacks definition and needs work on the lips, cheekbones and brow area to be more realistic. (not talking about the likeness here).

finally

i think your attitude is one found around this forum and many other forums:
you just praise and don’t actually help anyone in that way.

and just because you think you have to praise doesn’t mean i have to praise to.

PS: who cares what you teach and for how long, it doesn’t mean
you are good at it (teaching, i mean).

I like the model very much, although there is something missing in the face
and the attitude… In other words the model could be any of the 300
except for the helmet of course. Still, good work.

Koyima…will you marry me?

Hi guys, I’ve done a little head update
does he looks better now? what would you fix? I’m workin on the brow actually as koyima suggested

As someone guessed I got inspiration from 300’s movie, for the costume and character under the helmet  .
I didn’t pay much attention at the similarity because as i told, his face will be covered by the helmet.
Anyway I can take this like a training and after your considerations I’m trying to reproduce him as well.

Test8x6.jpg

Thank you to everybody

sorry man already married, but if i wasn’t,
i would consider your offer , lolz:lol:
since we have already figured out the fighting part:D

anywayz

i don’t see lex anywhere, maybe we scared him:cool:

seems lex is new to zcentral and his posts won’t appear, so
waiting for update lex

guys, do you know if 32bit displace maps generated by multidisplacement3 are supported by max2009?

Nice work  I would agree with Koyima, as for the resemblance of the character to the “300” actor; the latest update seems to look more like him.

thx Aumakua

Guys, I’m doing some quick displacement test, probably I have found a good multidisplacement3 code to generate maps that can be used inside 3d studio max.

I don’t have Leonida’s mesh here so I ve done some stupid tests, this is the best result:

The code: DE-LDGU-EAEAEA-R32

Zb Model:

32bit displace map (now jpg 8bit):

The final result using lowpoly and the map:
[url=“http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/6695/nmappeddv9.th.jpg”]http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/6695/nmappeddv9.th.jpg](http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/1412/zbrushdocumentmg7.th.jpg)

I hope the code will be useful to someone :+1:

a quick skin/texturing test
