Keeping Hard Edges...

Im tring to divide an object ( for example a tank ) with lots of hard edges and some curved surfaces. I use the “crease” tool before I divide and that works ok, however when I use the smooth brush, I lose the hard edges. Im sure issue only troubles beginners. Any Suggestions?

Thanks,

Dont use the smooth brush. hehe

Seriously though you could always re-sharpen the edges with pinch and/or flatten brush. You could also store a morph before you smooth and use the morph brush to bring back the parts you want.

You could also try turning off smt for the first divide then back on this will keep lots of the hard edges.

if you use 3d max, there is new plugin to zbrush that imports obj with smooth groups and when subdividing, you will not loose hard edges, this is best way to do this if you ask me!
