Keeping details while maintaining a low poly count question

My jewelry models are rich in details but it comes at a price, a high polygon count. I need to keep them under 1 million polygons. How do I re mesh or re create a mesh with less polygons while retaining all the details? I know that 4R6 has a new feature which does just that but I have 4R4 is there a way around that in this version. I know this is kind of a stupid question but I’m new to ZBrush. I also know that Qmesher is suppose to address that but I might not be using it correctly…

I assume you are willing to 3D print and keep your details under 1M polys (as most printers). In order to do that i use Decimation Master Plug in. Press Pre-Process Current (or all, if have more subtools) Then set your K Polys slider to 900 aprox. Press Decimate Current (or all) and the black magic happens.
