I’m bit puzzled why the canvas is forcibly hidden when best preview render is used. Is there any way to change that? I don’t care if the canvas receives no shading from the BPR, but it would be helpful to keep it visible while the current tool is being shaded.
you must be running into some bug, because I never experienced that. certainly no Zbrush default behaviour.
could be a problem between Zbrush and your Gfx card driver.
It’s in the manual, so it definitely is default and intended. If yours is doing something differently, I’d like to know how to do that too :).
BPR can only render a 3D object in Edit mode. That is why the background is temporarily cleared (click the background to restore it).
If you want to have a render with a background you will have to make use of the render pass options and put together in an image editor.
Naturally the final piece should be composited, that’s not the issue. In cases where I have to match shading to the background, the disappearing canvas adds whole new level of guesswork into the workflow. I’m not getting much of a preview from the preview render in this case.
I understand your frustration. The BPR is a new feature which will be developed further and I certainly hope that it will be able to render 2.5D canvas elements in the future.
In the meantime, you may be able to make use of Spotlight:
- With your background how you want it, press Texture>GrabDoc.
- Press the Texture>Add to Spotlight button.
- Using the Spotlight dial, set the Fade option so the image is at full intensity. Make sure the Spotlight Radius is set to 0.
- Use the dial to position the image so that you can view your model and the image while doing a BPR. Press ‘Z’ to get rid of the dial.
You can position the image off canvas and use the canvas zoom/pan as necessary.
