Kamen Rider-Kuuga

Hi everyone, this is my first time to post here.
Just had fun with panel loops. In fact, 90% of the sculpt is created out of panels. For the background of the piece, the character is from a Japanese action TV drama series “Kamen Rider-Kuuga”.
Actually the sculpt was based on sketches from a Japanese master sculptor - Mr. Takeya Takayuki. This was my attempt turning them into 3D model. Enjoy!

Awesome! I love Kamen Rider.

I’m working on my own first polished sculpt and I was just wondering if I could panel loops for the armor. Could you show a bit of the process you use to apply that? do you pull your panels direclty off your character mesh, or do you extract armor parts first and then pull panels off of those?

Thanks Westfic, I’m glad to show you more about the process.

First, I sliced the base mesh into multiple polygroups with the SliceCurve brush,

then, I extracted some of the groups with the Panel Loops function, in the setting, I had turned off the double toggle, other settings like loops, polish, thickness and bevel are subjective,
depending on how you want your sculpt to look like, for instance, sharp edges could be preserved better with low polish level. (it’s exactly how i achieved the sculpt with setting shown in the attached photos)

lastly, increase the ‘Mask By Ploygroups’ all the way to 100 %, under menu Brush > Auto masking. With a relatively large brush size of the Move bush tool, pull the surface of the panels to desire shape.

The best part is you could add other sculpted details on those panels afterward to refine the piece, too.

Super helpful! Thanks for the reply, terry, and the image of your settings.

Rendered in Keyshot, and posed for 3D-printing.
