Just Starting ZBrush - Animation Sculpting

Hello,

I have recently tried to seriously jump into multimedia production/graphic design, and one of my main goals is to model, animate, render, and so on upon my own ability.

ZBrush makes amazing models, and I have purchased and read up tutorials for a bit now and have a question:

  1. Animating.

I plan to animate with a program like Maya, or something similar. However, in the videos, threads, and so on I’ve caught on to the fact that not all ZBrush sculpting styles are good for animation. The difference between Adaptive and Unified.

If I am planning on sculpting for animation, where do I start on this forum for help and guidance? Rigging, adaptive clay, face for lip syncing, and so on.

  1. Texturing.

Is there a certain model type that must go into a program like, say, Bodypaint for texturing? If not bodypaint, any other recommendations for texturing?

There are many different ways to create models in ZBrush. On approach is to use ZSpheres to create a very generic base mesh. You then sculpt that mesh to your heart’s content. When done, you retopologize to get the best base mesh for your character.

Another approach is to import a low-res mesh from another app which you then divide and sculpt in ZBrush. When done you may or may not need to retopologize, depending upon what you’ve done to it.

As for texturing, start by reading the PolyPainting section of the online documentation. See my signature.
