Just a wee bit more learned

Well I have a long way to go but I think I’m beginning to understand
Mostly thanks to bonecastle whose casual remark about how to do eyes in another post caused a severe eureka moment. Also I never could figure out ears but that it also getting there. No prizes for speed modelling or detail here, and I didn’t use any reference so I’m sure some bits look wrong - but hey its a start. I would ultimately like to create a base low res head with good animation topology as a starter for all my heads so any comments you have are most welcome.
Cheers

First…while I have combined Mr. Skycastle and Mr. Bonecradle in my head many times…they are separate folks!!!

That aside…ya did a damn good job on this head!!! Only crit I would have is the shallow chin area but since I have no chin myself…I think he is about perfect!! But given a stronger jaw…ya might want to make the chin fit better…but that’s up to you. Ooops…I also like the ear…but it seems kind of low on the head…could be me though…rather tired I am.

I like him…would like to see you follow thru on the learning and texture him up and color him up when you are ready…I know he’s gonna look good!!!

ha my apologies to bonesky!

Thanks for the kind comments I think you are right on all counts and maybe the ears are a bit big also… I just had another eureka - maybe I should consult one of those anatomy books I keep buying hehe.
I will keep going, I’ve had ZB for a little while but not actually thoroughly explored it yet, and now its getting under my skin. It does seem to have that effect on people…
Thanks Aminuts

Cool sculpture

Probably he refers to the eureka moment I had the second I looked at his ZSphere model. Push the Zphere in and you have mouth and eye cavities. Dohhhh.ZB makes me feel so stupid sometimes.

Very good base mesh, now it´s time to add the details

Thank you all kind people!

Frenchy Pilou - I can’t find the link now, it was in a thread called ‘why I won’t be buying ZBrush’ or something like that. Quite funny really, just from the few little tips I got there I suddenly understand how to use multimarkers and masking, now I feel dumb for not getting it sooner hehe.

IllusionD - ah yes the detail, it will be interesting to see how much I can squeeze from my Tibook and its 1GB ram

When I try to make eyes and a nose on a zshpere I always end up with them overlapping and it makes a mess. Am I just making them too big or is there some parameter that I ought to tweak on the zsphere?

Yes. Tool>Adaptive Skin>Ires - I turned the value down to 1
