Joining two meshes by retopologizing causing holes - please help

I hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I’m trying to join to meshes by retopologizing them, a body and a foot. Both meshes are fine yet when I try to create an adaptive skin the polygons of the foot become a complete mess. Does anyone know whats going on and how to put it right? I’ve attached some pics to show whats happening. Thanks

zbrush doesn’t like 4 sided extrusions like you’re doing for the toes…make add another edge loop through the whole thing and you’ll be fine.

I stepped up a subdivision level and joined everything at that level then reconstructed my level one mesh. Hopefully this won’t cause problems further down the line. I guess I can always stick in the extra edgeloop you suggested if I do.
