Jester, king, monk or whatever tool.... WIp as well

I decided to paint a jester. So I modelled a tool. Then I changed my mind as to what I was going to paint…I am still unsure of the outcome. I have included some approaches/changes I found myself making towards the model.
I have not used any textures or premade anything for this image…nor will I ever.

I have used only the paint tools found in Zbrush. I find no need to enter any other art, or other programmes. ZBrush has all one needs, except for the obvious.

There are two layers to date within the image.

The eyes are spheres brought in on the second layer. The model is currently being painted within a Zbrush document. It has not been ‘snapshot’…nor rendered, default light setting and brushes vary for experimentation purposes…using flat colour, or whatever I feel suits my needs at any given time.

I see a lot of textures being used, however I rarely see one that suits this type of image…hence the reason I paint the skin tones. Painting and shading suits me …I feel it creates life, creates mood, and draws out the character of a figure. Nothing has to be too defined (definition is lost anyway…in many ways) Lips…how many wet lips do we see?
I look for an overall effect.

The image below is far from finished, but will be completed…hard disk failures not-withstanding…if anybody is interested I have included the tool I began with. I love the way ZBrush allows one many different approaches to models. As seen by the changes I have wrought to the one below…I just followed whims. The model itself was only modelled for the frontal view.

On a completely different note…I have had an email address for a long time…one I have never used…then I used that address for Renderosity…now I get Spam…

Yup…bumpy and lumpy at this stage.

Hi Ed, missed you around here! I look forward to another finished image of yours. It is also neat to read about the artist’s approach to creating the image I very much find that interesting.

And thanks again for your generosity

marvellous coloring of the skin, Ed! to me the character (last pic) resembles the shaman of some tundratribe - can’t wait what it will turn out in your hands in the end… thank you for sharing insights into the evolution of an AtomArt-masterpiece!

I particularly like the angle of the head. Forceful and inquisitive.

Nice start on the coloring.

Lots of potential with this one, Looking forward to seeing it’s completion!

good to have you back dude love the new tool talk to you later

Very cool image --He’s at least a Saturday morning Animated Super Hero ! And if not a very worthy Marvel Comics illustration…I think this stage and the final should be saved by you… this “in progress” version is a treat!

Beautiful shading and color Ed!
Wonderful intensity about this guy. :+1:
