jonsb01: Thanks! Glad it helped. I’m sure there are some spots that people use different methods or techniques, but that’s the great thing about Zbrush. So many ways to go about doin things. The speed sculpts are great exercises and help you tone your skills for those tough deadlines at work! I’m doing another speed sculpt for 3DC Mag right now so stay tuned for that one next month. I think it’ll be even better than the pirate.
Hi Sandpiper…thats wikked matey I really liked that :)…Congrats on your work.
Here’s some shots of a sculpt I did earlier this summer. I slapped on different materials to try to sell the shapes better this time. 12 hours of sculpt time.

the material on that is awesome…really works with those eyes…nice sculpt too…did you make that material?
Nope. The material is called GW_GreyMetal. I can’t remember where I got it though and I know I should! I’ve been searching the forum trying to find who it was but can’t turn anything up. If anyone knows, please say so!
Ok, gotta new speed sculpting tutorial up with 3DCreative Magazine over at 3dtotal.com. This month’s topic is creating an amphibious man/woman in 4 hours.
I chose to make a toadish type character that had some human traits rather than a humanish form that has amphibious traits. Well, maybe that’s open for interpretation…uhh, ribbit.

this frog guy’s just awesome! Love the design though his hands are rather more fishy than amphibious…
Oh hey thanks Intervain! Big fan of your stuff.
What’s funny about the hands is that I based it off frog’s feet. Their hands are actually not webbed at all, but I thought it would look cooler if his hands were webbed since I was working with a torso only. Thanks again for dropping in.
.
The frog’s great, the statue is amazing. I saved all renders of it to my computer
The material’s very cool as well, and according to a Google search it can be obtained from here.
Sweet work dude, i think the frog is my favorite, alot of weight behind that sculpt!

The Cheshire Cat: Thanks for the kind words. Also, kudos for digging up the material. I’d still like to know the author so they get their credit too.
Sathe: Hey man! That’s great to hear from such an artist as yourself. You’ve got some mind-blowing stuff, especially that new mech.
Here is something new I just finished here at work. It’s a Roman Hero I modeled in 3ds max and sculpted in ZBrush. His final face count is 11682 (although I could have probably taken out a little more). He has a color, spec, normal map set, all at 2k. I also added a subdermal for the sss in this render:

Turned out great jesse! You might want to try alittle different angle with his right hand… its shadow and profile make it look alittle unnatural.
Wonderful model I love it
Dude! nice job on ALL models
first thing i wanna say is:
the nose on the bishop is looking funny because: the little bone in the middel is missing or pulled up to high…
second thing i want to say is:
the horned guy?? I’m so jealous:P I wanted to come up with that face!!! its realllll cool man!
third thing: is there anything besides practising and getting used to deadlines to gets your interest about speedsculpting?
slangford: thanks buddy! I see what you mean about the hand. I think it’s got a weird shadowing coming from that downlight and it since it makes such a harsh change in light/shadow, it takes away some of the naturalness. Good eye!
SolidSnakexxx: Thanks!
Slice: Yeah, it seems the bishop has been a bit controversial anatomically speaking. ha! Just today I had a dentist appointment and noticed the teeth cleaning lady had a really weird bony nose bump with huge long nostrils. But I didn’t think anything about how her nose was made wrong, just thought it was a facial characteristic.
The gargoyle fella is one of my favorites too, but I do wish I had done some things differently to sell his concept better.
Speed sculpting in my mind has been huge for me as far as deadlines and practice goes. Those are definitely the two biggest reasons why I have done them. Of course, I also have been wanting to do a lot of different ideas and speed sculpting helps get those ideas out faster. It’s kind of like doing concept art in a way where it’s ok if it’s not perfectly clean of flushed out in design. As long as you are getting the essence of the character. Then if you want to do more, you can take it to the next level.
Hey guys… I’ve decided to roll into doing a bust or two. Here’s my first one. He’s a mix of some prehistoric fish, largemouth bass, and some plain ol’ made up stuff … maybe I’ll paint him up sometime…enjoy!

here’s another quick shot with a different matcap…
He could be a deep one from HP Lovecraft lore.
I feel some weakness for this kind of creatures. Congratulations from the deep!!
hey man, nice work - cant say i’d be all too concerned about the bishops nose - its a caricature styled sculpt - and it looks fantastic, i wouldnt fret at all. Love the expressions you’ve put into your sculpts faces - really helps add dimension to your sculpts. Love the flow on the fish guy sculpt also. keep it up man.
