It’s about half and half. David’s 3D, but his hair is painted in Photoshop. The environment is also all handpainted. Kinda fun not to rely on 3D geometry for everything…

gpepper: Yeah, I was initially going to have a big light source lighting him up but figured it could just be suggested. I actually had him a lot more muted before and it just felt undramatic. Thanks for your crit though! Always appreciated.

a preview of my newest endeavor…something more sculptural. Beard is wip and just blocked in for now…much more to come.
Hi Jesse, interesting to see the beard on the character (recent googles for faces yeilded alot of beards). You already have a lot of character in the face, are you doing a statue.
Latest progress on my newest project:
So much left to do on this but I’m just now starting to move into the detailing and textural phase (too clean and smooth right now). Very much WIP. Gonna try to do the hair in Zbrush with 3D alphas…still needs crown of thorns too…
