Thanks again.
gelfling status

hey john, i worked on a few npc gang members for wheelman and i often referenced your characters because i liked the style of realism. especially on the heads. i also learned a lot by studying your specular maps. great job and thanks for sharing!
Gelfy much appreciate what you said about my work on Wheelman, Are you working at WB now?

Oh and does that mean you like the Dark Crystal, I visited Brian Froud at his house when I was a 8 years old, the house was amazing covered with goblins and fairy’s. He had a big influence on my art when I was a kid.

Hey man great work! Love your stuff. So were are you working now? You just doing freelance work or are you looking to move onto another company? You have the skills, and the portfolio man!

ever considered teaching!
Well I am in the middle of Jobs write now, so I am looking into a few possibilities.

As for teaching, I have done a fair bit of mentoring in the past but I love the games industry and if I leave to do Teaching I might not be able to pick things up from where I left off. The games industry changes that much so quickly. When I started off over 10 years ago, I was one of a team of no more than 10, but now the teams start at around 60+.

Any way here is some more work.
These were based on some doodle sketches I did.
I wanted to flesh out some of the simple line drawing.
I worked on each head about 2 hours.
BTW They are WIP concepts and not finished pieces but I will return to them some day in the near future.

I’m really loving the style of the characters, they look really cool!

JAGibson- My brother came home from college the other night and brought over his PS3 and Wheelman. I remembered seeing this post of the great characters you created for the game. I was tell my brother about this thread and how I was really blown away by the models you showed. Awesome stuff!
I was playing on a HDTV at 1080p and While playing the game I did a close up on Vin D’s face and I was really disappointing on how he turned out. What Happened to the awesome model you created?
Please don’t take this as me being a “Negative Nancey” I’m just curious as to why he looks like he does in the game.
In-game models aside I thought the game was great. Really Fun!:+1:

Really Fun!:+1: Thanks daugaard47 To answer your question we made all of the characters to a high spec for the cinematic sequences but as you will be aware that it was an open world (Sand box) game in which you can drive around at high speeds. So it was necessary to keep the game running at 60fps, also the likes of the in game texture mip mapping does blur the textures too. Although it is disappointing for the resolution to be knocked down in game, we must remember that the game and the fun factor is the ultimate goal and that I am in the industry to make hopefully great character but more importantly great games.

The whole team did a fantastic job making Wheelman, and it was a pleasure to be part of.

I’m glad you enjoyed the game.

P.S. Sorry for the really long break since my last post, but things have been very hectic over the last few months but I am back in full time work in a lead position again. Hopefully post some more work soon but in the mean time you can check out the links below.
