Jagged edges when trying to transpose a masked area.

Hello guys. I’ve been trying to create a groove in a helmet I’ve been making, so I make a mask, and transpose it. But the edges of the groove are all jagged. My mask seems to be very low resolution, and when I see videos of people doing it, it’s very high resolution. I don’t quite understand it.

Hope you can shed some light on this…

I would suggest to take a look to the video series of helmet design from Drust:

There you will find plenty of ways of doing that.

There are loads of ways to do that. For instance you could go to Geometry>Edge Loops>Edge Loop Masked Borders to clean it up. Or you can polygroup the masked area and then go to Lightbox>Smooth folder and select the Smooth Groups Brush. Run the brush around the border at a low intensity setting and it will ensure a clean extraction even at a low subdivision.
