It wont break through

Hi all, all little help please. Im trying to create a very delicate material for a character(like fine lace). Just trying a a lace alpha on a plane and using the standard brush with alt only seems to push the into the recesses on the alpha and not erase and leave me with my pattern. just to let you know, i dont really use this program a great deal so please keep it simple ok.

I’d suggest simply painting the lace and using that as a transparency map- it would be easier than trying to actual sculpt all the lace, and save on polys.

I would use your lace alpha on a high subdivision level to create a mask. Where the mask is dark needs to be the lace, not the spaces between. You may need to invert your alpha in the alpha menu. Use normal brushes to clean up the mask, freehand lace, etc.

Once you have a clean mask that represents the lace, use mesh extraction. You will need a very thin setting. You can learn about mesh extraction here:

This will give you much more depth and realism, but if you’re also using another 3d app, and also needing to keep the polycount down, use the previous suggestion.
