Yes, Dynamesh has changed in 4R6. Polygroups are now assigned differently when using Dynamesh. To get the same result you have in the last image, do the following.
Use the ‘SliceCurve’ brush on the sphere like you normally do.
In Dynamesh settings, turn off ‘Project’ and turn on ‘Groups’ then turn on ‘Dynamesh’.
Go to ‘Tool > Polygroups’ and click ‘Auto Groups’.
Go to ‘Tool > Subtool > Split’ and click ‘Groups Split’.
As a test, you can skip step #3 just to see what the results are if you don’t click ‘Auto Groups’. This also has it’s purpose if you don’t want the holes filled in but left open.
