Issues with uvs and a symmetrical mesh

Hello I made these shoes to go on a model from extraction etc … then I merged and welded them they were many pieces and now one … problem is getting uvs from them … Maybe it is because they are symmetrical and joined I am not sure here is a picture below … uvs freeze up … I can pose the model with them on him though … but I need the uvs etc to take them into max … I have tried to decimate them down so they are manageable etc … but when I do of course no uvs cause by choosing keep uvs it crashes me as well I have a work station with a nvidia card about a gig on it … over 8gigs ram etc … quad core t3500 so it is not like the machine cannot handle large files. The shoes at top end come out at 2 mil polys …

I need some help … I can start over and seperate them rebuild two shoes … Maybe should have started that way

Not sure if I posted in the right place

The problem is that the merge function erases uv’s by default. In order to fix this you need to check “UV” in tool/subtool/merge BEFORE merging.

Once you have merged you can’t go back. You can create new uv’s with zplugin/UV Master.

Good luck

Hey morrisCowboy

first off thank you very much I thought I had checked it but alas I did not , good thing is I have multiple copies before this. So I should still be ok !!! Thanks but no cigar … I tried that it will copy the uvs that is not a problem now … but bow I lose my texture it came out all funky … just sec will upload what happens when I try and save my polypaint to texture after this … actually just a second if I go in and flatten those maps I have a royal mess … I had symmetry checked when I mapped before the mess … I am thinking I better do each shoe separate this is getting to be a stupid pain in the rump roast … everything else I have gotten mapped and into max these shoes have been a nightmare and the client wanted them to look like real “Chuckies” and antiquated term for converse … never had this many issues … monsters people etc … no prob unwrap, pull polypaint, run through all bthe other maps here or xnormal and then export and import … these shoes are a real nightmare and part of it seemed to be the holes that I got first using dynamesh then re polyed them etc …

no use even uploading the mess think I will separate the shoes and maybe retopo before getting to this point again
