Issues with mirroring a high poly mesh.

Hi there I’m attempting to mirror parts of the boot you can see here over to the other side of the model. I’m not having much luck as even when I mirror at low levels Zbrush will hang and I have to restart ZBrush. Is there anything anybody can suggest to get around this. This is my first character that I’ve been working on and generally my performance isn’t to great. When switching from say a low level to high level there will be a reasonable period of waiting sometimes. I have of course bumped the mem and prevented Zbrush saving history to file etc. Is there anything anybody can suggest to firstly get the boot mirrored and secondly improve performance? Thanks a lot.

How are you trying to mirror, in Deformation palette or Subtool Master? SubTool Master mirrors function may be better for what you want to do. For speed, it might be worth working in Solo mode and having only the SubTool you want to mirror visible.

By the way, nice attention to details from what I can see in your image.

looks like the boot is split into subtools…you could try merging it into one tool, then duplicating it, select the duplicate and then click mirror x from deformation palette.
then you can group split them back into subtools if needed.

Thanks for the reply, I managed to get the whole thing mirrored, it just took ages. Ended up just using sub tool master. Cheers. Here’s an image of the character I’m working on btw…

There’s a load more detail to it but I can’t handle the high levels all at once. Can’t wait to decimate this thing. It’s a supposed to be Ranger from Quake 1

excellent work. glad you got it all sorted:)
