Issues with Adaptive skin/rigging

Hi folks, ive been scouring the forums to see if i could find an answer to this question, Im probably just over thinking it

I got the Eat 3d - Hard surface techniques 2 DVD, Mike Jensen discusses creating new geometry from old (yeah i know there are tons of methods, extracting etc…) but i wanted to try his one. He says to use zspheres (not appended) once sepereate zsphere is selected goto ‘select mesh’ then choose your model, then goto topology and start drawing it out, creating an apapdive skin afterwards and making it polymesh. but after doing one little bit, i have to repeat the process again? he doesnt explain this on the DVD which is why i feel im missing something, he seems to be skipping from point to point with no hassle on the same subtool.

Any help would be appreciated, ive watched the section 100 times now and even tried to work out what shortcuts or hotkeys he’s using but i cant quite get it.

The only select mesh button I know of is in the rigging panel.

Yeah, within rigging, select mesh and choose the base mesh, then in topology panel click edit topology, draw the topology onto original mesh, then when done (deciding thickness etc…) make adaptive skin but my issue is that it vanishes to another tool leaving me no option but then to re-append to the original mesh.

When you click make adaptive skin, it is then a new tool with skin in the name in the tool panel…

yeah for some reason i thought it was staying within the same subtool or something, my brain wasnt working correct;y, thanks Doug for taking the time. It really is a good workflow.
