Issues with 3.5

Hey Zbrush community.

I was wondering if anyone else is having the following issues with 3.5. and if a solution is known where applicable.

I noticed some of the official plug-ins wont work with the new update. For example Zapplink will prevent the program from even starting.

The keyboard command ctrl+shift+left click will no longer let me select a different subtool. That’s a big lose in my view. Selecting a subtool has gone back to just scrubbing through a list of potentially hundreds. Slows things down a quiet a bit.

I haven’t been able to start from a shortcut on the desktop or Start menu (running on Windows Vista 64). Some of my co-workers have however, so it seems hit and miss. Maybe its an installation problem?

When opening up a menu with options, the menu window itself does not update in size, and I have to manually scroll the menu down to see the options.

I also noticed a lot of the materials from the past are rendering a lot different. I understand there has been some viewport changes, just wondering if anyone else has noticed.

With all the big changes and new tools in Zbrush, I can’t say this new update is at all a disappointment. I’m very excited to integrate these new features into the pipeline. I just hope the old things that worked don’t get trashed from the software.

After lurking more I found a lot in the threads that discussed some of my issues I had.

  • Plug-ins will be updated shortly. Currently they can load but aren’t recommended to be used with 3.5. results may vary.

  • To quickly select subtools you no longer use the ctrl+shift+left click command. instead you just hold alt and left click the subtool to select it.

  • Still cant use a shortcut to start the program. but not a huge issue. Figure it’s a user error.

  • The materials do look a lot different in the new viewport. In some ways better, and in others worse. But that’s what happens when your generating materials in different programs.

Kinda newb of me to have an impulse posting. So far, loving 3.5R2. And looking forward to 4. Many thanks to Pixologic!

For the “start-from-shortcut”, make sure that ZBrush.exe (the real article in the your programs directory) has the “Run this program as an administrator” checked in the compatibility tab of the file properties. Then make your shortcut(s) from Zbrush.exe. I keep mine in the qucklaunch area near the start menu myself, but I’m pretty sure you can put the shortcut into the start menu if you want.

So far this working fine on the two systems I’m using ZB3.5r2, on is Vista Ultimate 64 and one is Vista Home Premium 64.
