Issue - Dynamesh Closing Holes I Want to Keep

Hello All.

I’m suffering from what I’m sure is operator error on my part but here is the issue…

I have a dynameshed tool that will ultimately be a 3D print. I am attempting to use insert brushes to subtract from my mesh in order to make keys to split my print into several pieces to be assembled later. The problem is that every new Dynamesh operation following my subtraction fills my previous subtractions. I’m sure it’s something simple I’m overlooking. I only have the Group button active in the Dynamesh dialogue. Any ideas? Thanks friends.

Every time you use an Insert mesh, ZBrush creates a new polygroup where it was cut out. Do a “Group Visible” or “Auto Groups” in the Polygroups subpalette before you insert another negative mesh.

Perfect answer!

This is exactly the fix for my issue. Somehow I had it backwards - thinking I had to keep polygroups to stop this from happening. Thanks so much for the prompt reply. Back on track now

:+1: Turning on Colorize on the subtool will also work, and eliminate using Group Visible or Auto Groups, but you will have to “SwitchColor” or the insert and cutout will be black. If you want to keep the cutouts as a separate polygroup, turn Colorize off and turn off “Groups” in the DynaMesh settings. It will not fill the holes, and every cutout will have the same Polygroup.
