Is ZBrush "too hi-res" ?

Hello,

I keep running into threads where people say things like “Zbrush is great for hi res printing but too hi res for most modeling purposes”.

My question is - can you not use Zbrush to export out an obj or GoZ at basically any resolution? Also doesn’t the Decimator plugin reduce poly counts drastically?

Thanks in advance for clearing up my confusion.

In my 2 years of zbrush knowledge, i have found that u are unable to export a file over 30,000 polys to maya or whatever modelling app you use without maya/max etc crashing. lets say yah wanna send an obj from zbrush to maya and the obj is 100,000 polys onwards, your computers gonna have issues, as for goz i think it automatically lowers the resolution of your mesh to sit comfortably in wahtever app your sending it to.
And yeah man decimation master does lower the polycount. Its even better if the topology is correct also, something im learning now

Hope this helps man, as i said, im a pure novice at zbrush at the moment

Im sure theres people out there that can rectify any wrong info i have given (if there is any)

I have no problems exporting and rendering high res meshes, the decimation plugin does a really great job of reducing the mesh, it does a good of keeping the polypaint intact too

I usually export something around 300k to 500k polys

Thanks for weighing in.

So are the types of statements I referred to just hold over notions from earlier days when Zbrush resolution was a problem, or is there anyone out there still saying that Zbrush 4 with Decimator cant output useful model data to other apps without these issues?

older comments you might have seen are probably before the decimation plugin was added
