Is this at all possible?

Hi guys,

I’m pretty new to 3D and I’m working on a project for university which is a low poly game character.

To cut to the point - I have created a model and unwrapped the UV in Maya. I wan’t to know, is it possible that I can load this model and UV map into Zbrush, paint on the 3D model, and then save the painted UV map, and put it back into Maya?

I have tried over and over again for the past two days to paint directly on the flattened UV map in Photoshop but I just can’t get my head around it, painting on a flat UV map for me seems like a no go :frowning:

Anyway, any help appreciated.

No one?

Just click on the Tool >> Texture Map >> New from PolyPainting button to create a texture (based on the UV map) that can be used with Maya.

Here is the corresponding section of the manual: http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Texture_Maps

http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Polypainting

When you import your character, make sure you divide it enough so that the mesh has enough verts to paint on(under tool>geometry>divide). also, make sure you have tool>geometry>smd turned off when you divide so you maintain your lowpoly character’s shape(if that’s what you desire).

from then on you can just turn on tool>polypaint>colorize, change to standard brush, under draw menu turn off zadd and turn on rgb for the standard brush, and paint on your mesh. I recommend changing the material under material menu to something else like skinShade4.

after you’re done, go to tools>texture map, click on “new from polypaint”, and then click on “clone txtr” under the same menu. then go to the texture menu on top and click export.
