Is this a normals issue?

Hi. Using ZBR 4, OS XP 64-bit. 8 gigs RAM.

OK, I keep getting this strange fracturing on the surface of my tool as I apply detail. The fracturing appears while I’m working on the highest subdiv level, but often looks works on the subdiv level just below that one. Sometime ssmoothing seems to inflate the fractured surface. I believe it’s a normals issue, but I’m just guessing and would love to know how to fix this.

Anyone wnow?

I remember having a simular issue. The problem were some flipped polygons.

Makes sense.

OK, can I fix it in ZBrush or should I export a low subdiv version to Maya, set all the faces to the correct orientation and reimport?
