Is there more than 2 types of zSphere rigging??

Hello.

Is there more than 2 types of zSphere rigging??

Trying to follow both of these links in order to figure out why I’d use one method over another:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFpIaQMDuQo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6THhnv0m6g&feature=related

Is there a difference or am I missing something? (As far as purpose goes)

In the first link, right after he adds the zSphere subtool he begins to draw out from the main one by clicking on the actual body of the figure. Clicked the sphere to move it (“W” pressed). I get 2 small green circles when hovering over the zsphere (in symmetry mode, like I should) and outer ring of zsphere highlights as well. When I click on my figure, it just moves the figure around the zsphere as if I’m not clicking on the character.

In the second link, my Transpose dropdown menu doesn’t even allow me to select “zSphere rig”. So can’t begin to do anything with it.

Obviously this seems to be something basic I’m not seeing or the person didn’t say or is assuming, or something …?

Help please!!!

Thx

In the first video, the rig is simply drawn on the surface as a quick way of drawing out the zspheres. They still need to be moved inside the mesh before binding and posing.

Both videos are using Transpose Master, so are for when you are posing a model with multiple subtools. Turning on the ‘ZSphere Rig’ option in Transpose Master will mean that the plugin automatically sets up the zsphere so you can start building the rig.

I don’t understand what you are saying about not having the Transpose Master ZSphere Rig option. Which version of ZBrush are you using?

Using 4R4 on Mac with Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

Actually what I see in this link seems to be what I’m able to duplicate on my Mac.

It seems that in that first link, the author is just clicking in space (not on the main zsphere to establish hips, thigh bone, shin bone, etc.).
(I’m sorry, I meant that the first link was part 1 of 3 as in here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6THhnv0m6g&feature=related).

The " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6THhnv0m6g&feature=related " vid, at least the author, as I said “looks” like he is clicking on the actual main zsphere.
I was thinking maybe it was a setting I didn’t have set correctly or he was doing something faster (the video is faster) or using some hotkey shortcuts I’m not seeing.

I’m stressing that it “looks” like he’s clicking out in space on the figure, not clicking on the actual main zsphere.
Why does it look this way?

Sorry about that wrong first link.

If you turn off Ghost transparency you can just click on the mesh to draw a zsphere. You need to make sure the last draw zsphere is selected (red), so you might need to switch to Move mode to select a zsphere before switch back to Draw mode.

All this method does is provide a quick way to draw out the rig by following the mesh. If you can’t get it to work, don’t worry; it doesn’t make any difference to the actual rigging/posing of the character.

Thank you, sir!! Will try it out.
