Is there a way to import objects for high division levels?

I am having an issue at the moment and there is hopefully an easy way around it that I am unaware of…

Where I stand is I have a low-poly game model I bought in to ZBrush, that I did detail and texture painting for in ZBrush. Now I have to re-do the UV’s due to some seam issues. I know how to transfer the textures to the new UV’s thru ZBrush so that is not the issue…

My problem is that I need to re-do the UV’s on my low-poly model. So if I change my low-poly model, I’m going to lose all the higher polygon detail that I made in ZBrush.

Is there any way that I could transfer the higher division levels from my original mesh with the original UV’s, to my new mesh with the new UV’s?

Thanks in advance!

Don’t worry about Uvs if you’ve painted in “Colorize mode”. You can paint in two ways. Using Projection Master over the texture, or using “Colorize mode” over the vertex resolution (High poly model). If you have worked with this second option (I hope so), you will haven’t any problem to do what you want.

Simply pick up your low model in your 3D soft and do the new Uv map BUT don’t touch the topology of it (don’t add or remove any vertex, touch only the uvs).

When you have finished, export it to an obj and do the next.

Open you Zbrush High Poly model and leave it to level one, go to Tool>import and import the new model (same topology, different uv map).

Zbrush will take the new model (the same, but with different uv map), and will apply to it all the previous detail, but with the news uvs.

If you import the new version of your model into level 1, this will only update the UV’s. The high level details and polypaint will be unchanged.

It’s simply important that your point order be the same as what you first imported into ZBrush. If the point order changes, your model will explode when you return to the higher levels.

Also, before you import the new version, you should store a morph target at level 1. After you import the new version, switch to the stored morph before returning to higher levels. If you stored a morph target after first importing the model to ZBrush, before dividing the model to start detailing then you should switch to that stored target before importing the new UV’s. Switch again before returning to the higher levels.
