Is Projection master necessary?

My question is: Can I get any different, or better results using projection master instead of sculpting everything using alphas and brushes. I am not worried about colors or textures, but when speaking in sculpting terms only, is there any need to use projection master? Is there anything that can be achieved faster by using it?

I am no z brush master, and I am just starting to get the hang of it. To me it seems projection master is a way to keep your model still when you want to get in close and do some detailing. I can do this by masking the area and zooming on that portion only if i want to add detail.

with projection master you can use the 2.5d painting tools, such as the deco brush and whatnot. also, since it drops it to the canvas it operates much faster than with 3D geo… so if you have an extremely dense mesh you can cut in wrinkles without any brush lag.

so it’s still pretty useful

great info, thanks for explaining. So there definitely are advantages and mainly in saving time (a big one). I strayed away from using it only because I am still a beginner at Z brush and I was scared to dive into something new. Thanks again!
