Is Mudbox by autodesk the same things as zbrush?
never!
nooooooooooooooooooooo waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay…
Similar, but not the same. ZBrush is something I always felt an artistic tool, while mudbox in my opinion is rather technical approach. If someone (like me) prefers the artistic approach, ZBrush is his or her ultimate friend. Try mudbox, and you can tell the difference (you’ll need a decent videocard for mudbox)
yes,videocard is painful in MB,is a big problem:td:
There’s a 30 day free trial for Mudbox which I took advantage recently. Both programs have their strengths and weaknesses. Mudbox is pretty intuitive and I was able to produce stuff almost immediately. Their sculpting features are not as nice as Zbrush and the brushes are really hard to set up properly, but the texturing is much more direct and you can texture on layers using blend modes. Getting maps out seem simpler and you can flatten your object AND paint texture it in flattened mode. Please note, however, I am not an highly experienced user or a professional. I don’t have especially powerful computer and can rarely subdivide a simple primitive to 6 or 7x in Zbrush, but I didn’t notice any problems in performance with Mudbox.
For the way my brain works, as much fun as the new texturing features are in Zbrush, Mudbox works in a more direct way for texturing, where as Zbrush is a more pleasant sculpting experience. Its an individual choice. Zbrush took me months of frustration to learn and with each new version I had to rethink everything, but I wouldn’t give it up for its own unique featrues. In comparison I was up and running with Mudbox almost immediately. So I now have both.
I am glad I did not rush into buying Mudbox as I thought it was a different way of making models. I am a lightwave user and wish that zbrush would incorporated more with it instead of Maya and 3-Dmax. But then again I am not a professional doing this, and I use it as a hobby to keep from going insane in my retirement years.
This keeps you from going insane? I’m having the opposite experience. Zbrush is driving me crazy
