Is it possible to start with a UV Master

Hey Guy, new to this program. I wanted to know if I started with a UV Master, which has been supplied from another program in the form of a JPG file. Can I import that file and create the character from there?

I have attached a head UV Master to see

huh?

I don’t think so…

That’s impossible to start with UV…cus UV is just a 2D texture coordinate map aka reference for your 3D object for a correct texture placement.

Its not impossible, as if you have a uv, you must have some polys to uv.
So if you have a flattened set of polys it is possible to make a model out of it. Why you would go about it this way I have no idea. This does remind me of the old throwback technique of manual planar uving where you would unwrap the actual model as a morph, and Z planar project UV it then morph it back, in ligtwave before it had proper uv tools.

Rereading the first post… I think what he means is he already has a texture, and he wants to get the uvs to fit it, rather than the other way round.
If this is the case, use UV master to get the approximate unwrap, then adjust the UVs in an external app.

When did lightwave get proper UV tools then?

Basically, I was wanting to create some clothes or skins for a virtual game called second life. They suppply a UV Master or a Template of head, arms, torso and legs. Once the clothes are built then you can load into the second life program and wear on the avatar. I supplied the head template. So is it possible to do it this way or does anyone have a suggestion to a better solution?
Thanks for your help guys. I am such a newbie
