90% of textures I am doing for a game are not square but rather 2x1 or 4x1 in proportions. I only found how to force Zbrush paint square one with wrap mode. Is it possible to use wrap mode on non-square textures?
Yes, this is possible. You simply have to use the canvas. Set the document size to whatever you want the texture to be and fill it with a base color/material. (Layer>Fill with Draw>Rgb turned on.) I recommend using Flat Color for the base so you’re just painting texture and not seeing any material effects.
Now paint the texture, being careful not to touch the edges. Once you’ve done as much as you want for this phase, hold the tilde (~) key and drag the canvas to move it. This is like a shortcut to Photoshop’s Offset operation.
If your computer doesn’t have a tilde key you can alternately use the Layer>Displace X and Displace Y sliders to get the same result.
Paint what is now the middle, then offset again to get to the remaining area.
When done, export your document.
Thanks for the help. Too bad I need to paint wheel trails on a gravel and dry dirt surface. It’s not so easy with the way you described.
This is interesting!
Where is wrap mode?

oh my god
I dident know I could do this!
THANKS YOU GUYS!!!
I have another question, at either the top or the bottom (I cant honestly tell which) I get a black or grey line, what is causing that? And is it fixable?
Cheers!
Mealea
What I talked about is Brush>Curve> wrapmode
As regards of grey line not sure I understand what do you mean
I don’t know how to paint in Zbrush other than poly-painting and 2.5D but is this what you meant? (no dry dirt, just mud bubbles, and no wheels, just a trail of gears. (hideous pun intended). (This has an example of the annoying line at the top).

Hope this helps,
Mealea
PS: If I can get rid of that line I’m going to go berserk with this tool, its a stunningly cool feature!!!
-EDIT: There is also a small ripple at the edge going from top to bottom, if you place this on or in something that can repeat it you will notice it quite clearly
Kirkl, I have been screwing about with this a lot since you brought it up and while its very cool I cant seem to hide the artifact on the edges, not much fun…
It seems to be more of a rendering issue like Zbrush is rendering a shadow for the edge of the window or something, very strange…
I can post more examples if your curious.
Cheers!

Sorry, I still don’t understand what are you talking about? I don’t use the 2,5d method as aurick offered because it seems doesn’t allow to make AO or cavity masks for color painting. If you are talking about 3d way on a square plane, it looks like Zbrush can’t handle uv without at least one pixel border so it gives you a small edge.
