is it possible to configure "brush tool" vs. "lasso tools"?

so i’d really love to change the behavior of how the lasso tool is invoked:

i’d like to have the behavior be a bit more like photoshop where you can have a “brush tool” selected and then all my ctrl, alt modifiers affect the brush…

and then you can choose a separate “lasso tool” (and have different modes like polygon vs free form draw) with the ctrl and alt tools working the same way in those modes that they do with the brushes (i.e. mask, hide).

is there some way to customize the behavior this way?

thanks

Not exactly sure what your after, but see my post here and see if it helps.

do you use photoshop? in photoshop you can switch between a “brush” or a “lasso”… click on the brush icon and now you are controlling a brush. click on the lasso icon and now you are controlling a lasso. while i have the brush selected, all modifier keys affect the behavior of the brush. when the lasso is selected, again, all modifier keys affect the lasso.

right now, you can’t explicitly change the state and the modifier keys perform a 4 way switch between brushing, masking, lassoing and hiding with several of those cross pollinating with each other…

normally, i like operator overloading but this is, imo, ridiculous.

p.s. saw your link but unlike you, i don’t find it to be a beautiful thing… definitely would like the behavior to be more like photoshop if i can customize it that way. definitely to each his own and i’m not asking for a global change mandated for all users to a style that fits me…but for me, i use zbrush infrequently enough so that all the ctrl, shift, alt modifiers (not to mention click release) modifiers is a tedious trial and error almost every time i’m at bat. i’d gladly trade some “speed” for something more deliberate and explicit and if could modify the interface to suit me, that would be great.

actually, making my own menu actually got me a long way there… i put the invocation reminder in parenthesis too so i don’t have to guess:

alright… this is gonna make me MUCH less frustrated and perhaps more productive.

p.s. is there any way to turn that INFO pop up PERMANENTLY OFF?

Wow! Sorry I mentioned it. In the future, I won’t.

huh?

we don’t agree in regards to this but it’s not anything personal.
