Is it possible to add a texture map to a multimesh insert brush object?

Hi guys,

Is it possible to have a texture map applied to MMI brush objects so that when you draw them out they have a texture map vs poly-paint?

I’m trying to figure out how Tate Mossessian has such nicely detailed bricks in his videos and thats the only thing I can come up with since polypaint doesn’t give the same level of detail for bricks that are sub-100k.

It’s not possible to apply a texture map to an InsertMultiMesh brush as UVs aren’t preserved. The only option is polypaint.

Also, if using an InsertMesh that is polypainted, Colorize (Tool>Polypaint>Colorize) has to be turned off for the subtool that you are placing the InsertMesh onto. When done placing all your inserts, then turn Colorize on to see the polypaint.

edit: or, like Marcus says, leave Colorize on and turn off Mrgb, Rgb and M buttons. You can leave M button on if you want to select and use a different material but if your InsertMesh is alraedy polypainted, leave Mrgb and Rgb off.

Alternatively you can turn Colorize on and turn off M, RGB and MRGB. If Colorize is on and you have one of the M, RGB and MRGB buttons on then the inserted mesh will be filled with the current color and/or material.

Thanks Marcus! :+1:

And incidentally, the IMM Bricks brush included with ZBrush is by Tate Mosesian, with each polypainted brick being about 70K polys.

Thanks guys

His tutorial is a bit confusing since his bricks start off at 600k but switch to a lower level out of nowhere with no explanation  I thought maybe he had some secret to preserving all of the detail you see.
