Is dynamesh new or just repakaged remesh? Answered.

This is a serious question. I’m not a heavy ZBrush user, more of a hobbiest, but I don’t see anything new with dynamesh that couldn’t be done before. It’s like they made a batch file to make 3 separate actions easier, but thats it.

And to make things worse, seasoned users are hyping it up and everyone is saying how the new dynamesh lets them do things they couldn’t before.

Am I missing something?

The whole thing reminds me of ‘The Emperor Has no Cloths’.

You are missing something.

A chainsaw is basically the same functionality as a hacksaw, but the speed and efficiency in which you tear through trees, zombies, or ancient demons in the woods, is vastly different.

Dynamesh is much more accurate than legacy remeshing (I dont know if you ever tried to do a negative boolean subtraction with the legacy remeshing and projection, but it was dicey at best). It is much faster if working within the intended range of low to medium resolution meshes, allowing you to freely remake form pretty much at the speed of thought. And the full set of associated tools that comes along with Dynamesh let you do a ton of things that were either outright impossible, or highly impractical in Zbrush before. Dynamesh isnt just dynamesh.

Try it. You’ll like it.

DynaMesh is a new technology.

DynaMesh is capable of re-meshing shapes that could not have been re-meshed by previous versions.
DynaMesh is capable of re-meshing the interior of the mesh even if it is hidden from view (See the ‘Create Shell’ function).
DynaMesh is more accurate and faster than any previous re-meshing code.

In other words… Z4 re-meshing was very good but Z4R2 DynaMesh is far superior.
