IOC ‘All together now’

This was a promo spot for the Olympic Committee, produced at Nexus (www.nexusproductions.com) with young hotshot directors Fx&Mat (http://fxandmat.blogspot.com/). I lead the job as well as character development and modelling the male characters alongside my mate Andrew Hickinbottom. I also textured and shaded the all of the other characters and created environments/props.

We used ZBrush to quickly flesh out concept sculpts of all the characters. This enabled us to get real-time feedback from the directors as well as being able to start from the same base mesh for each character and easily tun it into another. :smiley:

Fantastic! This is exactly the type of work that inspires me and inspired me to learn ZBrush in the first place. Great designs, really nice flow.

I like the artstyle of these characters, Zbrush work dosn’t always have to be blobby or overdetailed. Great work dude!!

I really like the part where the green strongman coils the rope around his arm. I think I started to tear up a bit :cry:

When I first saw the thumbnail for this post I thought they were a superhero team. Great work especially at keeping such clean surfaces. Whenever I try to use any of the flattening tools in Zbrush, I still get a lumpy surface.

Now, give these characters super powers, dammit! :D:D:D:D

The turnaround for this job was, as usual, very quick so having a solid idea of what the characters were going to look like as early as possible was key to creating them quickly. The directors had some sketches and even a physical sculpt of each hero character (which was a real luxury). The next stage was to start with a base mesh and use ZB to create a concept sculpt. This was a very important stage as we could get real time feedback from the directors, “move that up, fatten the cheeks, widen the neck, lower the eyes…etc etc”. We then re-topologised the meshes. :slight_smile:
