Introduction

Hello everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to this forum. My name is Ryan. I just got Zbrush 4 a few days ago and I am totally lost. I am more of a tradition sculptor. I have been doing traditional sculpting and SFX stuff for a little bit now. I am trying to move down to California to go to school for it. I got Zbrush because my friend told me it was similar to traditional sculpting and that it might help me later on the SFX career that I am shooting for. Like I said I am totally lost to all this digital FX stuff so any time of help would be awesome. I am kind of computer illiterate when it comes to this so I am up for any type of guidance. Thank you all

Hello Ryan and welcome to the ZBrush Forum. The best place for you to start learning ZBrush would be in ZClassroom. Start with the Introduction to ZBrush tuorials.

Thanks a lot, I will check it out. I have been playing with Zbrush but I have been having a slight problem with creating a zspere and creating a polymesh for it…it wont allow me to create one with my zspere

Hi Ryan,

I am new to Zbrush, the world of 3d and sculpting also. Don’t be scared of it just find your way around slowly. The Zbrush classrooms are the first port of call.It is quite daunting at the start but you will get used to it and once you start sculpting you will be hooked-I promise.

I love it and although still very much a new noobie I am glad I bought Zbrush. The community is very kool and very helpful and very inspiring.

Relax, enjoy and we all look forward to seeing your work

Can you give a bit more detail? What steps are you taking to get a polymesh sphere?

I open Zbrush and I have a blank palette to work with, I click on Sphere 3D and create a sphere. I then click on Make Polymesh 3D button and i try to start sculpting and it keeps on telling me I need to click the button which I already have. I have tried different variations of it like clicking edit and then pressing the polymesh button and still nothing happens. I was on youtube and found a somewhat fix for it but it requires me to create the Sphere 3D and then save it and reopen the save and it works but I don’t want to have to keep doing that

This is the order you should follow to get a sculptable sphere.

  1. Select the Sphere in the Tool palette and draw it on the canvas.
  2. Turn ‘Edit’ button on.
  3. Click ‘Makepolymesh3D’ button.

You should now be able to sculpt on the Sphere.

If that doesn’t work, you might have to reinstall ZBrush. If it’s still doing it after a reinstall you should go to the Support Center and start a support ticket.

I followed your exact steps and I still got the error “To enable sculpting, please convert this 3d-primitive to a polymesh3d by pressing the ‘make polymesh3d’ button in the tool palette”

Could my copy of zbrush be defective or do i not have the certain settings set up right?

Just load an object like the bee or dog that they give you, that should fix everything. The problem is “Make PolyMesh3D” isn’t generating a new object. The new object, if generated will become your new selected tool. It’s name ill be identical to the tool you had selected, except with PM3D_ in front of it dog.
