I’m having this issue. It happens everytime when I append a Tool (for example I´ve appended 2 sphere for eyes and after that when I try to save i get the error’
set to admin + giving folders the right permission did not work… this really sucks.

I’m on a Windows 7 alienware m17x laptop with 8gb ram, i7 3610QM and HD4000/7970M

Please help :frowning:

Is it 4R4 or is it 4R4 P2?

If it is not P2, please update. Simply run “ZUpgrader”, found in your ZBrush 4R4 folder.

Thanks.

Yes it is P2.
Ok I found out the source of the problem, it’s not only a multiple subtool issue as i thought.
What I can do is. Append a tool, save NP
Extract masked. Save NP

what i can NOT do is.
Append a tool, duplicate it and Merge Down with the original tool (or maybe even merge down with anything, havent tested)

This is what corrupts my save, somehow i can not save out a duplicated merged down tool.
I tried to make eyes, so I appended a standard sphere, positioned it, saved NP.
Then I duplicated it ,moved to the other eyesocketand merged down, saved it and got the error.
This is very annoying but at least i know the source of the problem now.

I recreated what you did and the same crash happened to me too.

can you record the session?

Same error on Mac OSX 10.6.8

However I can only replicate it with the Sphere3D. When I do the exact same thing with the polysphere the error doesn’t show up. I tried a couple of other models and it didn’t seem to show up with the error. So on my end it looks like it’s only when the Sphere3d tool is involved.

Wow, It reliefs me that it’s not hardware based… I bought an alienware m17x for school to run programs like 3dsmax, zbrush etc.
Thank god…

I have had a ztool corrupted in a similar way. I DID use the merge-down function before saving. This is a serious problem.

likewise…

is the tool unrecoverable?

I could find no way to recover it.

I was also able to re-create this error using the Sphere3D converted to a polymesh.
This error is really killing me on another project right now, so I have been experiencing
this issue on an actual job, not just sphere testing, and it totally destroys the tool.
Upon trying to re-open the file, I get an ‘out of disk space error’. I hope that there’s a fix
for this in a hurry.

I just found this thread by googling. I found way to save working copy of zbrush project with corrupted subtool. Just clone broken subtool, delete orginal, and append it back to original tool. Now I could save and open file.

Thanks! I cloned and appended together a new tool and it worked. Thanks for saving me hours!!
