internal error .\Mash3DDxf.cpp line:16942

Has anyone had this happen to them? I’m somewhat stressing here.

Last night I made about 4 major critical version changes to a project I’m working on. I saved each one as a different file name (different ztools.) I also saved a project file. Last night hte project file took a long time to save, but all was seemingly well. I closed zbrush and this morning I tried opening the project file, as well as 4 of the different ztool files i saved. All report this error:

INTERNAL ERROR .\Mash3DDXF.cpp Line: 16942

I opened a ticket right away… I’m hoping there’s a way to recover these ztool files and that someone where might know how.

I’m using ZBrush 4R3, on my windows 7 64bit box. never had this happen in zbrush before.

Hey Wb,

Exactly the same happened to me about 10 minutes ago :frowning: I only had 1 project file since my additions and they were rather big too, I added a lot of new subtools using GoZ and that might be the problem.

I got the solution from pixologic. It’s not good news. I’ll leave the message here in case this is of benefit for others.

So I’m not a hard core Zbrush user… I didn’t know that you shouldn’t save a mesh, with areas masked. If you have masked off parts of a mesh and you save, you run the risk of corrupting your model and all subsequent saves/versions of the model.

In my case, I save often and make versioned file names. At one point in my process, I had a mask on one of the subtools. I saved the model. No error - and no warning message about masking. But it was corrupted at this point. I continued to work on the project for another day, making several versions (different saved file names.) All were corrupted from that single point of failure.

Pixologic responded that there is a chance of corruption when you save with a mask on your model… and any saves after that, will carry the corruption over. It’s not recoverable.

Maybe everyone knows this - I didn’t. But since I learned my lesson, thought I’d share this with anyone else who might find it useful.

Cheers for the “solution” I had no idea that masking would cause so much of a problem o.O.
It would be nice for it to notify you when saving if anything is masked, instead of just corrupting everything …
