Intergalactic Shaman - Finished

Update: Finished

I could keep working on this piece for a long time but I am impatient and excited to move onto a new work, so I am calling this finished.
Critiques and comments are appreciated.

The Conference of the Intergalactic Shaman is coming up. A festive time when all the celestial curanderos gather to exchange brewing tips, partake in ritual and discuss the great mysteries of existence. I have the task of birthing many of the attendees into this dimension using the profound process of pixel puxelation.

This is the first attendee to show up.

Baelu is from a planet called Shone that orbits the super giant star, Antares, in the Scorpius constellation.

/////////////////Previous WIP Thread///////////////////////////

Here is a new piece I am working on that I started last weekend on my spare time. This is my first major piece of 3D art I have made. (major meaning I am putting more that 2 hours into it  ) I am learning a lot as I go and look forward to making many more in the future. I will share my progress on this piece here. I hope to have it finished this weekend.

Crits and Comments are welcome

I can’t wait to see how it will end. Good job so far <img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif”>

More progress.
Tomorrow I need to set up an SSS shader for the head, finish the headDress, build an environment, tweak with a little more sculpting and do lights.

I like it overall Fidget and I like the idea behind it. The face vs the headdress seems to flat or lacking in detail. The texture needs work but I see that you are done and rdy to move on. Thats understandable. I am the same way lol. Great idea behind it :+1:

Thanks for the feedback. You are right. Maybe instead of being done with it I need a break from it instead. I went 8 days working on this thing. I am sure I will revisit it in the future with a fresh head.

Aloha,

Yes sometimes its best to let things simmer and come back to it when you are rdy. But I have been reminded that sometimes a lengthier critique is needed.

I said I liked the idea behind it. Intergalactic shamans . heh  :+1: I suspect that you like me indulge in a bit of creative writing.

ok. What you have here is more of a 3d sketch than anything else but you can fly with it. I like the Colors on the headress but I dont like the texture. Its too flat and doesnt match the headdresses sense of Organicism. That almost sounds obscene lol. The shamans actual skin texture is too gouged and bland. I would look around at some of the other texture work and see if there any clues. Maybe some better alphas and lay a better base to build the texture up. The form of the alien is too simple and smooth. You will need to work on that to bring his form out better. Try comparing to human models. You need skin folds in the actual geometry of the model to bring texture out and make it shine. His head looks like it is stuck on a rock with a cloth on it. Dont be afraid to strip that cloth away and give him a body. Once you have his body… then go back and clothe him. His eyes are almost there but they require work also. They are too dull. Try looking up some of the old eye tutorials here. They are dated but the idea is the same.

Scene wise. Who wants to see him against that dull wall? Throw some planets and spaceships behind him thru a Viewport. It will give him depth.

DONT give up yet. Come back when there is more inspiration but you need to sweat some more to bring him up to par. :+1: DONT give up!

Thanks, tartan. I appreciate your critiques. These will help. I actually knew some of these things would come up. As for the background, i tried the space idea before and did not like it; it was too distracting. Then I went and engraved an alien language into each of the cubes behind him but again thought it was too distracting. I will put on my thinking cap again and see what happens.
