Interface Improvements for ZBrush 4.

Well we’ve all been using ZB 3.5 for a few weeks now and overall I’m very happy and impressed with it.
But would it be possible to have a few amendments to the interface, such as a bit of colour usage especially the brushes.
There is now a large collections of brushes in ZB, all of which are great, but with a little colour coding it would make finding a brush so much quicker. Or at least the choice to colour a brush to the users choice, for example all smooth brushes blue - all clay brushes red etc…

Also as a lot of artists these days have a dual monitor set-up can the brushes palette be ripped off and sit on another monitor ?

(sorry for my bad english…) i like to see in ZB4 some new features like simple translator tools (move, rotate and scale) without action line and simple selection features, normally clic and select on poly-faces without hiding parts. Simply clic and select polygons and simple translation tools. No hiding faces, no action line that’s good to transpose only.
In my modest opinion i think about polygon selection and mesh translations are too much complicated uselessy up till now (the only features i like to Mudbox are just these ones…). Also i agree about dual-display capabilities, it’ld been very useful. Thank You very much.

Shift+Right Click for brush size scale up-down without menu or slider.

I’d like to have an improved navigation, too. When you want to rotate your object you have to click on an empty space on the canvas ; this is so annoying ! I’d like to have 3dsmax-like navigation, for example. Alt, or Ctrl+click anywhere and you can rotate/move/scale your object freely.

I’d like to have an improved navigation, too. When you want to rotate your object you have to click on an empty space on the canvas

In 3.5 you can now just “right click and rotate” in the viewport.

Shift+Right Click for brush size scale up-down without menu or slider.

The [] keys will scale the brush size up and down for you Photoshop stylee.

I’m not trying to start a ‘bitching list’ by the way just some constructive comments on things I’ve noticed. Please check out the new features before complaining they aren’t there.

We do have a rather “abundant” brush menu now. Some sort of folder/Subfolder system would not be out of line.

Sorry but i repeat: no action line for translations (move, rotate, scale): action line is useful just for transpose, besides it’s very annoying and uselessly complicated to translation…
Also mesh parts selection is very uncomfortable too with actual method (hiding polygons…): it’s more useful and comfortable normal polygons selection with point+clic on desired polygon faces… (shift+clic to add polygons, alt+clic to deselect polygons…)
Normal polygon selection and normal translation tools like Mudbox (i like ZB not Mudbox…).
Moreover i think it’ld been very useful perspective-grid visualization with possibility to toggle it on and off…
Dual-display capability with detaching palettes…
Customizable hotkeys to navigate the canvas (with usual ZB style and Maya, 3dsmax, etc, styles too…)

few things i miss r…

i would like is the ability to have a thumbnail preview because i usually organize my meshes by date modified so i know which one is the newest one and since i have so many that thumb nail preview came in handy…

or we could just have the ability to be able to organize light box by date modified instead of going through them all till you get the right name of your mesh…

and i would have to agree poly selection in combination with symmetry mode it would be faster lasoing all the little face and hoping you didn’t hide something you wanted to…

ability to have closed meshes with zspheres with out retopoing it by selecting adjacent chains and click a join button…

and since these zsketch spheres make there own poly groups when turned in to unifed mesh i find it logical to have the ability to be able to select by each chain drawn since it does recognize those in uniefeid skinning and in turn that would also offer more control over each stroke and chain drawn would allow more ease of adjustment in combination with masking and poly group modification…

but really im sure they will add some of these things in future updates once people see how powerful they are for doing hard surface and organic meshes…

Zbrush 3.5r2 is steadly improving THANKS PIXOLOGIC.

I've several wishes for our favorite coders to impliment. The first is regarding scene navigation. Is it possible to have the toggle keys 'w' for Move, 'e' for Scale, and 'r' for rotate reconfigured so if the (w,e,r) keys are pressed and held then Zbrush jumps to the associated routine immediatly for the duration that the key is pressed then with the release of toggle key resumes normal editing? Ideally without the cursor having to moved e.g off the model to rotate. My second wish concerns the move tool. In Zbrush 3.1 using the alt key to do fine vertice adjustment along surface normal was sweet for tweaking lower subdivision level. Zbrush 3.5r2 move brush (press hold alt) presently lets us move the same vertices along the models surface. I would like to toggle or step through both these 2 alt move mods rather than have to open the brush pallete and select a different move brush. [color=Cyan][color=PaleTurquoise]I feel the brush pallete could be condensed [color=PaleTurquoise]in this manner.

I prey for vertice movement restricted to:
1. moving vertice along normal
2. poly faces connected to vertice
3. along poly edges connected to vertice

With the move brush in 3.5, click and hold Shift to move verts along normals. Click and hold Alt to move along the surface.

The move brush plus shift key in Zbrush 3.5r2 results in smooth brush.
Testing shift + alt keys gives me very tiny movement of vertice along vertice normal. This minute movement along vertice normal is virtually nothing in magnitude.

No, not shift+ move. Place your pen down, then hold Shift. This moves in and out along normals.

Doing the same thing, but with the Alt key, moves verts along the surface of the mesh, or at least, along the plane they were on when first selected.

Thanks!
Another feature Zbrush 3.5r2 revealed to my previously blind eyes.
:+1:

In every case, Thank You very much Pixologic!
User-interface future improvements are just some
suggestions only, ZB is already great as it is now of course!
However in my very modest opinion ZB would be even better if you could been simplified certain functions…
IMHO polygons selection in the usual mode, translations (move, rotate, scale) without “action line” (good for transpose only but very uncomfortable to translations…), perspective-grid, more canvas hotkeys navigation, dual-display capability, more Lightbox options, etc…
Sorry for my bad english language and sorry if i’m repeating the same requests…

i agree with troy about allowing the preview window back, i too sort by date modified, also it helps when quickly selecting other things. lightbox is nice but not as fast, nor have sorting options. Or at least have a numerical saving system like svengali’s plugin.
