Interactive Light loves to crash my Zbrush

Most of the time I use the Interactive light, I get it to move around for a few seconds, then the program gives me an “Abnormal Termination”.

I’m not sure what specs are relevant but here’s the system I have:

64 bit Windows
16 GB RAM
Intel Quad Core 2.8 Ghz processor
Samsung SSD with over 350 available GB
AMD Radeon 6800 series video card

I have only a little understanding of how Zbrush uses the computer hardware, but to my knowledge, I have plenty of firepower.
Nothing else crashes Zbrush when I use it. Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Interactive light is buggy. I simply don’t use it for that reason.

Same experience as beta and yourself. I just don’t use it now. Pity really as it is a great feature when it works.

Thanks for the link. However the poster says it can’t be used as a button, which is exactly hot I want to use it. I have a custom popup menu and I want to have the button on that.

Maybe I’ll just have to put the Light Icon in my menu instead. It’s too bad though cause that thing is so big.

OK, here’s a version of the plugin that doesn’t need a hotkey (I posted the plugin in that thread).

Unzip the file to your Desktop, then move the Marcus-InteractiveLight.zsc to your ZStartup/ZPlugs. Restart ZBrush and you should find a new button in the ZPlugin>Misc Utilities sub-palette called InteractiveLight~. (The ~ is so you can tell the button from the original.)

Press the hotkey and then move the cursor around to position the light. You can also click the mouse/pen to stop. If you get the blue donut or ZBrush does its busy thing, just wait as it will soon stop. This version has a short loop which will exit quite quickly. Because of this, you may need to press the button again if the plugin stops before you have done adjusting the light.

Thanks for getting back to me Marcus!
I should have seen that in the thread as well. Sorry.
I loaded it - and it works beautifully! It works just as well in my custom menu, so thank you very much.

I will enjoy it

No problem, I hope you find it useful.
