Insufficient relocated memory

I recently get this error a lot: “Insufficient relocated memory”.
For example when I try to export a high detail .obj file (around 1.9 million
polygons).

What can I do about this?

I will try defragmenting my harddrive, but I also seem to remember someone mentioning something about ZBrush being Java based, and therefore you could increase the amount of memory that’s available for the program in a textfile
somewhere 9as oppposed to in the prefs).

If that’s the case , where can I find that file ??

thanks

Hi,

I think you might have heard that the ZBrush installation process is Java based. ZBrush itself is certainly not.

Unfortunately there is a limit to how many polys you can export. I just tried at 2.1 million polys and it worked fine but I remember there being a limit.

I am running ZBrush with 2 GB ram and at the time of export I had just over one gigabyte of free memory within ZBrush. You might try disabling Tool > Export > Txr (UV Coordinates) and Tool > Export > Grp (Groups) to minimize any overhead. Also, leave Preferences > Mem > Tool Undo at 1 (the default), Zbrush will still reserve multiple undos if there is enough memory.

I’ve been getting this same error.

Disabling UV Coordinates and Groups, as well as reducing number of undos, made it possible for me to increase my exportable model size from about 2 million polys to 3.75 million polys. In actuality, it meant I could up my model to the next subdivision level (900k to 3.75 million polys), and that had a HUGE impact on my detail level.

Now if ZBrush would simply generate normal maps on models at the highest division level, I wouldn’t have to WORRY about exporting my almost 4 million poly mesh in order to generate normal maps in another package.

I hope they take care of that in Zbrush 2.5, assuming they ever actually release 2.5.

Wind_of_Change, I am not sure I understand. ZBrush always compares the current subdivision level to the highest subdivision level when creating a normal map.

There are two fixes to this I have founnd

1 use the mac version, it has a rewritten obj exporter that supports higher poly counts

2 probably a better solutiion. Close ALL programs and kill anything you can in the systray. Kill any processes in the background that you can.

in preferences:mem raise the compact memory slider to 1024 2048 or even 4096 and try to export
if that dosent work raise it all the way : ) Dont keep it set that high tho, it will cause major instability : )

I’ve had a problem where my displacment maps work fine and in themidst of fine tuning after 10 renders or so I get a “Mental Ray aborted due to issufficient memory”. Deleting Maya’s preferences file and rebooting don’t help. Has anyone else run across this?
