insertsphere/cube zsub problem

in zbrush 4r4 i now find that whenever i use Insertsphere or cube and turn it to Zsub to cut bits out of shapes, it doesn’t seem to work anymore, it just welds a cube or sphere to the shape. When i turn it to Zsub the insert sphere/cube now looks like it’s cut in half and shows the interior of the insert shape like if it had been selectrect-ed. Has zbrush changed something, because i really liked this feature in earlier versions. Any information would be appreciated.

When you see the inserted object with the inverted normals, that means that it will subtract from the volume as soon as you dynamesh (which is what you want). This is a new visual thing which makes it simple and easy to tell if the mesh is going to be subtractive or additive (so I’m all for it). If you wanted the old visual behavior, you have the option to turn on tool: display properties: double

Don’t use Zadd or Zsub buttons as they don’t have any affect on boolean operations. If you are using an InsertSphere and you want it subtracted from the shape then hold down Alt key while you draw the InsertSphere onto your mesh then Ctrl+drag twice on the canvas to re-dynamesh. If you don’t like the inverted look of the insert (which I don’t) then you can turn on ‘Double’ as Cryrid suggested.

Big Thanks to both of you, that answered my questions and fixed my problem!:+1:
