insertmesh brush scaling and size controll

Please let me know if this is the right place to post this question:

What is exact the relationship between the brush controls (z intensity and draw size) to the size of the original mesh used in a custom insert mesh brush? I want to use the insert mesh brush to place cylinders of constant diameters but vary the heights precisely. I need cylinders about 3mm diameter (consistently) of heights ranging from 1-25mm, controlled to a precision of 0.0mm. I have searched for information on these brush controls, but have found nothing that explicitly explain the relationships between units, scale, and brush controls. Any advice would be appreciated.

ZBrush does not use absolute units of measurement so there’s no direct relationship of the sort you describe. For example, the Draw Size is a pixel measurement that is separate from mesh size (though the new Dynamic option will link the two, it is a loose association).

You can use the Transpose line as a caliper by setting the Transpose Units (in the Preferences palette) against an imported cube of known size. You can then scale each cylinder immediately after placing as the rest of the mesh will be masked. That is probably your best option.
