Inserting New Edgeloop With Consistent Width

I’ve just dealt with the way this works since I’ve used it but am looking for an answer as to why this happens or if I’m simply not understanding something about the usage.

My understanding is when I use ZModeler to insert an edgeloop, I can hold down shift and the new loop will run with the same consistent spacing as the loop that it was inserted closest to. For the most part this works but about 80% of the time I experience something like you see in the video. What am I doing wrong here?

Hello @Jesse.art ,

It would be impossible for me to answer your question for certain without examining your mesh. However, I would suspect that your mesh is an open volume (is not watertight) and somewhere the topology involved may converge into a single point, for instance a pole on an end cap. This type of topology may experience issues when it comes to defining what constitutes an edge loop, and may at times produce conflicts with points seeming to move in opposite directions by an operation.

Possible workarounds:

  1. Eliminate any poles where multiple edge loops involved in an operation converge into a single point, for instance the radial symmetry on the end cap of a cylinder.

  2. Close your mesh volume (make it watertight) with topology that results in clean edge loops on the end. This may help the function make better sense out of your topology.
