Inserting ball and socket joints for articulated 3d prints`

Hi everyone,
I am creating a sculpt that I would like to insert ball and socket joints into so that the 3d print can snap together and have an articulated appendage. I have experimented with this in the past, by inserting a sphere onto the end of the limb and then pushing/sculpting a socket into the receiving side of the model. It worked, but wasn’t the cleanest. Is there a tutorial or workflow that someone would be willing to show to help me get on my way? I am working in circles, but so far I sculpted the model, merged, dynameshed and decimated and printed the model as a 1 piece object. Now, realizing what I would like to do, I have split the various parts out and have each piece as a dynamesh subtool waiting to figure out the best method or workflow for adding the ball and socket portions. I am thinking maybe a subtool sphere that I boolean add to one and than subtract from the other?
Below is a quick set of images to help understand what I am trying to do.

Any suggestions, links or help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Q
