Insert mesh issue

Ok… I’m trying to insert limbs into a character, with subdivisions. I created an insert mesh brush, dropped my character to the lowest level and froze subdivisions… inserted the brush limb and ctrl+shift’d twice. I got this result… I’ve also tried deleting all higher subdivisions (instead of freezing), but had the same problem. I’d like to keep my levels, obviously… the brush is one leg, mirrored on the other side, and the body has all the subdivisions and detail.

If you want to create bridging geometry between your model and the new leg you need to make sure:

  1. The leg has an open end.
  2. There is a polygroup of about the right size at the place you want to attach the leg to.

You can use symmetry to attach two legs to two polygroups.

What I think may be happening here is that there is no polygroup at the base of your model so that the leg is attaching itself elsewhere.

Nail on the head, Mr Marcus. It was totally an issue with my polygroups… once I re-did them, it worked just fine. Thank you very much for such a quick response.
