Insert IMM curve trouble :(

just for practice I made a cylinder like IMM brush and curve placement is driving me crazy,

no matter in what view I chose things gets distorted in the opposite side :frowning: is there any way to lock IMM curves motion like XY,YZ and ZX so that left and front view just works as 3ds max or maya viewport? how do I avoid it? say I’m trying to draw a mustache using this IMM or cylinder curve and I want curve to get snapped only at the beginning right below the nose and then it should go straight how can I achive that !? now whatever I do thing gets snapped to the surface! hiding polygons or points which I don’t want, sometime works if I’m lucky. I’ve been on this like 4 hours now and it’s driving me nuts please help me out

Also read about stroke modifiers. http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/sculpting/sculpting-brushes/strokes/
You can lock the start and end of the stroke as well as snapping to surface. HTH

no that’s not much of a help, it says that the ‘project strength’ option controls Insert meshes deform with respect to underlying object but, that option grayed out in IMM curve mode, moreover I don’t want it my IM to curve to deform with respect to underlying object I just want it flow according to view angle just like different orthographic view in maya or max like each view only works in cetan axis, like if you draw a line or curve in left view it won’t deform in z axis so it gives us clean mesh that’s what I meant when I asked “there any way to lock IMM curves motion like XY,YZ and ZX so that left and front view just works as 3ds max or maya viewport? how do I avoid it” is there any workaround?

There’s not so much a ‘work around’ but knowing how it works. Back to the drawing board could be used as an expression here. Read more, play more. What you want to do can be done in ZBrush.

Here is a place to start. There are many IMM brushes available. Below I used the IMM Weldseam brush with settings shown.

is there a reason you can’t draw it without snapping and then with the rest of the mesh masked off, move the beginning part into place? that might be a way to go.
